Money comes in and goes out of our pockets in no time!
Whether it’s to pay bills, put gas in our car, buy new stuff and things, go out, we might spend too much cash on certain things that may not be so useful.
I used to shop a lot, I mean that frenetic working girl shopping!
I still looooove buying things, but my way of buying has changed a lot. First because of what I buy and second because of how I buy.
This is the key to have a healthy relationship with your shopping habits :
I think a lot before buying anything and ask myself all these questions: Do I really need it? Will I really love it in the long run ? Will it last?
When you want to buy something that is other than a necessity and that you are in this state of mind it is more simple. Take your time, don’t be in a rush to buy stuff. Especially today when we can buy almost everything on the internet. If you don’t buy it now, you will surely find it again.
This is for general shopping, but when it comes to food and necessities it’s a different organization if you want to save some money. How to save money on groceries is a great post on that specific topic.
I decided to list a few things we can change in our lifestyle to help us save a little more money everyday. Let’s jump into it and try as much as we can to change our bad habits!
Groceries, food, and beverage
- Eat before going grocery shopping
- Meal plan with what you already have in your pantry
- Stick to your grocery list
- Bring your own bags to shops
- Cook
- Keep and eat leftovers
- Cook more to have leftovers
- Meal preparation
- Take your food and snacks to work
- Don’t buy ready-made meals and snacks
- Make a soup with your not so fresh veggies
- Eat less meat
- Eat out only on special occasions
- Don’t have delivered meals
- Don’t buy bottled water
- Drink tap water
(Well, if you live in a crappy place, don’t drink tap water if it’ll make you sick !) - If you like fizzy water, buy a soda maker
- Stop drinking sugary drinks on a regular basis
- Avoid drinking wine, beer or alcohol cocktails (so expensive !)
- Don’t drink coffee (hahaha joking ! I’m a coffee junkie), drink coffee at home, not on-the-go.
Bedroom and dressing
- Re-organize your dressing and sort out your clothes
- Donate or sell the ones you never use
- Give a try to the KonMari method
- Spend quality time with your loved ones instead of going shopping
- Go clothes shopping if you really need something
- Don’t spend hours on the internet looking at clothing
- Try thrift shops
- Try seasonal second-hand markets
- Do a no-spend month(s)
- Wait for the sales
- Just don’t go shopping!
I’m sure you have enough beautiful clothes and shoes and bags and underwear and accessories to wear!
Kitchen and home
- Don’t buy more home decoration
- Swap your kitchen paper towels for reusable ones
- Ask your grandma if she has it before buying anything
- Do a no-spend month(s)
Books and children games
- Don’t buy books
- Donate or sell your old books
- Borrow books from the library
- Go to the toy library (indoor free playground with many many board games and others)
- Become a member and borrow games from the toy library
- Game gifts for children only on special occasions
- Find second-hand games
Beauty and bathroom
- Switch to solid soap
- Try solid shampoo and conditioner bars
- I’m telling you, you don’t need many different body creams
- Try using kitchen products for your skin care
- Finish your make-up products before buying new ones
- Swap your makeup remover cotton pads for reusable ones
- Try a natural bare makeup look
- Do a no-spend month(s)
Outside of your home sweet home
- Walk for short distance instead of using a car and consume gas
- Same for bus
- Use your bicycle
- Buy a refillable stainless steel or glass bottle
- Always have your bottle filled with water wherever you go
This may be difficult because we are surrounded by temptation. Everything is thought and set up to make us consume and spend money. Small life changes can absolutely make you save money.
Take your time before buying something that isn’t a necessity. Often, with time, you realize you didn’t really need it and you actually saved some money. If you wait, you may also save money because when you decide to buy it, it’s on sale.
Most often when you have less useless stuff surrounding you in your life, the more you enjoy what really counts and the more you are able to plan ahead.
Spend more time outside wandering in our beautiful cities and enjoy our planet’s nature, take time for yourself and have fun with your loved ones. Enjoying life in a simple way saves you money by not consuming.
What are the simple changes you did that actually saved you some money?
Don’t forget to Pin it 🙂
