When I started blogging I wanted to set up a money-making
I was determined to make this blogging thing work and I wanted to make sure that I did things the right way in the first place. This was to limit headaches and make the most of my investment.
After searching all over the web about starting a blog, I realized that this one information came back again and again. The way you set up your website will define if it will be a money-making blog or not. If you want to make money from your blog, you need to treat it like a business. As this blog will be your business, you want to own it and customize it to your liking.
This is why a professional blog set up is really important!
HOW TO START A MONEY-MAKING BLOG
This blog post is all about setting up a profitable blog. If you’re just getting started, this is where you want to be. I will go quite deep in the setting up process and later on I will show you how to start making money from your blog.
For now, we have to make sure that you get started on the right foot. The set up will be the inauguration of your successful money-making blog.
If you are willing to set up a profitable blog, there are five basic steps to take. A profitable & money-making blog means that your earnings will cover your expenses and ideally exceed your costs. With a lot of work, it can

STEP 1 – CHOOSE A DOMAIN NAME
This is super important because this is going to be your blog’s internet address and you’re going to build an online presence around this name. Example: www .yourdomainname .com
My blog’s domain name is www.onemillionlifeplans.com. My blog is all about achieving millions of small financial goals by saving money & making money, money budgeting & money planning, the purpose of all my tips is to live a better financial life and reach financial freedom.
The domain name should reflect in a positive way what the blog is about. What you are willing to share with people.
Choosing a “niche” is difficult when you like to write about many topics. Having a niche will help you target more precisely your audience and adapt your blog posts to your audience. Because in fact, if you are willing to make money blogging, it will be more about what your audience wants to read and not what you want to write about.
At first, I didn’t target precisely my audience. This is because I love writing and I didn’t exactly how this journey would be. It was a beginner’s mistake and I changed my strategy. I separated all my favorite topics to be sure that all the content of my blog is relevant to my reader. And yes, that means that now I have several blogs.
So, your domain name should reflect what you are going to be writing about. Blogging is all about sharing your knowledge and expertise with your specific audience. It’s a good idea to choose a domain name that will showcase what you are going to share or teach. But it isn’t a necessity.
In my opinion, this is the most difficult part because you will have some great name ideas and unfortunately some others had the same before you. Simply using your own name is also an option.
Find a domain name you love. One that fits your style. D
STEP 2 – GET THE BEST WEB HOSTING THROUGH SITEGROUND
There are so many web hosting services but only a few of them will give you everything you need for a money-making business. If you start your blog on a free platform, you won’t have access to important tools that you need for growing and monetizing my blog.
The lesson here is if you want to own your blog. If you want to grow quickly, and make money with your blog, you need to be on a self-hosted platform.
I decided to get my hosting through Siteground, and don’t regret it at all. They are the absolute best in the business. Their customer service is great even before purchasing anything. I had several questions before I decided myself to host through Siteground. They replied quickly through the chat and their answers were super clear for a non-geek like me.
The process for getting started on Siteground is simple, their customer service is incredible, I mean really incredible, and their prices are super affordable, especially with my special discount.

You can start your blog for as little as $3.95 a month.
Siteground has super fast SSD drives and also super fast web servers. Your readers will have a great experience while scrolling through your content. Their customer service and live chat are really incredibly great. And these are only a few great wins that I point out. Overall Siteground has the perfect web hosting service for beginners and advanced bloggers.
I had some issues with my own blog and I have always used the live chat option to get them to help me. They were always super efficient and helpful even when it wasn’t a web hosting problem. This is why I recommend Siteground over its competitors. They run an incredible business and have a great support team.
They also offer free SSL certificate, free 1-click WordPress installation, and free business email address. This is the best set up you could ask for, it costs almost nothing and you get a lot.
Go to the Siteground website, hit that sign up button, and purchase your web hosting package. It’s a quick and easy to set up.
CHOOSE A WEB HOSTING PLAN, STARTING AT JUST $3.95/MONTH
When you click on my link to join Siteground, it will take you to the web hosting page with three options and some very special discount prices.

CHOOSE A DOMAIN NAME
After choosing your web hosting plan between SartUp, Growbig, and GoGeek, you will need to enter the domain name you imagined earlier. Type your domain name into the empty box and click “Proceed” to see if it’s available. If not, you will need to try with another one.
If you already have a domain name and you are just wanting to transfer it over to Siteground for hosting, select the option that says “I already have a domain”. Siteground will help you transfer everything over to their servers for free (only for GrowBig & GoGeek plan).

SET UP YOUR USERNAME, PASSWORD, AND PAYMENT INFO
After your domain name is accepted, you will create your login information for your Siteground account and add your personal information for the payment.

Then the final decision to take is the period of web hosting you want to purchase and the extra services. I highly recommend getting “domain privacy” so that your personal information is protected. I also purchase the “SG Site Scanner” and I am really satisfied with it.

You can now hit that “Pay now” button, and that’s it! You have a website domain on a self-hosted site! Congratulations! 🙂
Oh! But before hitting that button, don’t forget the Freebie!
What’s next?
STEP 3 – DOWNLOAD WORDPRESS
Siteground is for all the techy stuff and hosting your blog. WordPress is where your content and visual setup will be. It is the backside of your blog, where you will customize your website, write and publish your content, add various features, and where you will spend uncountable hours.
Now that you have set up your domain hosting on Siteground, you can log into your dashboard with the username and password you created. After that, you will need to install WordPress from your Siteground account.
Here are the visual steps to take to install WordPress after
Go to Siteground website and select the “login” word.

Enter your email address and password to login Siteground.

Select the “my Accounts” tab.

Click on the “Go to cPanel” red button.

Scroll down to WordPress tools and click on WordPress installer.

It is so easy to do, so don’t worry if you aren’t tech savvy.
You will then create a username and password to log into WordPress. Write it down, because you will need this every day of your blogging life.
Once you have WordPress installed, you will be ready to design the look of your blog. Just remember, you don’t need to log into Siteground to access your WordPress. To connect directly into your blog to customize it, type your domain name into your search bar and add /wp-admin to the end of it. For example www.yourdomainname.com/wp-admin
If you run into any problems, you can always use their live chat for assistance. Don’t forget that they are being paid to help you!
STEP 4 – CHOOSE A THEME
The theme you choose will be the way your blog will look like when going live on the internet. There are plenty of free themes that have basic functions and features.
When you log into your WordPress dashboard, you will go to ‘Appearance’ and then ‘Themes’ from the toolbar on the left side of the screen.
You can choose from one of the themes right there on the “Themes” page. Or you can upload a theme that you have purchased or downloaded elsewhere.
I did purchase a theme through StudioPress because I needed a website I could totally rely on, even years from now. The downside of free themes is that they might block you in your growth at some point. They may not be updated anymore for some reason, and rarely have a support team to help you with any issues.
STEP 5 – GO AHEAD AND PLAN YOUR BLOGGING LIFE
That’s it! You just started a blog and now you are ready to move forward and plan your blogging life.
Remember, you are willing to build a blog that actually makes money, right? Setting up a blog with a reliable web host is very important. It should definitely be your first step to
This is only the beginning!
I know it can be very overwhelming to start a blogging journey. There are so many different aspects to think about and put in place. Having no background in building websites and not being tech-savvy, I was able to build easily a profitable blog.
If I can do it, you can do it! 😉
I love Siteground because they offer high-quality service for a very low price. With, in my opinion, the best customer service ever. This is an important point when starting something new.
